Easy Trick to Match Wedding Shoes with Dresses

Okay, the gown is chosen and now you’re selecting the bridesmaids’ dresses. As soon as they’re purchased, of course, you’ll need to decide on shoes. And, you know right off the bat that you’re not likely to find shoes which exactly match the dresses. Well, you might find such shoes but they are going to cost a pretty penny. There’s always the backup plan: having the chosen shoes dyed to coordinate or match colors on the bridesmaids’ dresses. That’s not cheap, either. And, you might want to think twice about trying to dye them yourself; that can often end in catastrophe and you’ll find yourself out having to buy more shoes at the last minute. Put an end to the bother and just buy the shoes you want. Then, do an easy trick to make them look like they were made especially for your wedding.

Patent leather shoes are one type which look especially nice when you make them to match the wedding dresses. You can also do the transformation on fabric shoes. Just use ribbon and you can quickly make many different types of shoes match your garments.

Ribbon literally comes in thousands of designs, widths, colors, and patterns. That makes it pretty easy to find a type of ribbon which features colors that match or coordinate with the chosen dresses. Order ribbon online or, better yet, at your local fabric store, so you can see how well the colors match. Measure straps, heels, across toes, and other areas you wish to cover with ribbon. Purchase ribbon in the widths and colors you want.

Whether you’ve chosen white shoes, black shoes, or another color, you’ll have no trouble making them match the dresses. Cut ribbon strips to be the lengths you need. If needed, cut angles at the ends of the ribbons to match angled ends on particular straps. Just use a little bit of fabric glue – found at fabric and craft stores – on the strap. Lay the ribbon on the strap and smooth it in place.

For straps which have buckle holes, glue the ribbon to the strap, but keep glue between the buckle holes. After the glue is dry poke holes in the ribbon to match the buckle holes on the straps.

If you want, you can attach tiny beads, bows, rhinestones, or other jewels, directly to the ribbon to embellish. You won’t believe how well the refurbished shoes will look with the bridesmaids’ dresses. People will think the shoes were made specifically to match the dresses – and they were.
