Learning How to Raise a Baby

Plus sign, two lines, strip turning blue.. whatever the case may be, your life totally changes when this happens, having a baby. Whether your young, older, at any age it changes your life for the better. Whatever your personal opinion may be, this is just my personal story so far of how my daughter has changed my life for the better! Babies no matter what anyone says, are different when they are yours or you have the sole responsibility of taking care of them.

I was a little older by today’s standards when I had my daughter, 29, but I know for a fact that this was and is the best time in my life for this to happen. I wasn’t panicked when I found out, but definitely surprised. It is the greatest feeling to have something grow inside of you and to feel that baby kick and hear the heartbeat took my heart and touched it forever!! I read everything I could get my hands on, searched ever symptom, charted my baby’s progress and thought that I was ready, no problem. My nursery was set up, I read everything I could get my hands on, and hey my mom was coming down for a couple of weeks. We had this in the bag! Wrong!

I was happy to have my baby, but I realized that there where alot of things that you couldnt be told or would truly appreciate until you where actually experiencing them!! My husband is an only child and I am the baby of my family, so our combined experience total was of watching cousins, or other children for maybe a maximum of three hours. No one tells you that when that tiny little face is looking at you, helpless and totally dependent upon you that you have to step up and do what in your heart you know is the right thing. Its a daunting feeling and makes any kind of secret selfishness or negative attitude that you have just disappear.

Changing diapers, feeding, bathing, caring for and learning our baby’s cries and feelings have been the hurdles that we have overcome along the way. When you realize that someone has pooped or thrown up all over you and you dont care, you know love. What kind of diapers to use, what formula (after she gave up on breastfeeding), which detergent, what toys they love, singing them silly songs to make them smile; there are just so many things that your baby, your child doesnt differently. We learned them all!! I wouldnt change anything either, even now in the toddler stage, where my daughter is trying to grab everything including my mouse as i am typing.

We are still in a learning process and each day she learns and we learn something new!! I never thought that I could love anyone as much as I do my husband, but I do and more because of us creating her together. She has been a great start to a beautiful journey we have as a family and I wouldnt change anything we have experienced. We have both worked full time jobs and kept her alternating hours, and I wouldnt have it any other way, because of all we have experienced!! I love my family and cherish all the we continue to learn along the way!
