Let Us Cross Over to the Other Side

Everybody knows the story of how Jesus calms the storm, and that is a great story. This is a bible story that we read to our children. It shows how Jesus has absolute power and authority over all things in this world… but this story is so much deeper than just “Jesus calming the storm”.

Luke 8:22-25
22 Now it happened, on a certain day, that He (Jesus) got into a boat with His disciples.
And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out.
Did you catch that? Jesus said, “Let us cross over to the other side”! He did not say, “let us launch out, get caught in a storm and perish“. Jesus told His Disciples exactly what was to come… He was going to take them to the other side, despite what they will face.

Do we have faith during the storms in our lives that Jesus will take us to the other side?

23 But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “
Master, Master, we are perishing!”
We can only imagine how bad the storm was. These men must have seen many, many storms in their time but this storm seemed to alarm them more than the others, if they thought they were going to die. They did not realize, though, that with Jesus in that boat, there was no way the boat was going to go down. They could have slept through the storm and it would not have gone down with Jesus inside.

We need to realize, with Jesus as our captain… our ship will not go down! He will take us to the other side!

Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm.
“Jesus rebuked the wind” simply means He told the storm to stop. He basically said, “HUSH!” and instantly the storm stopped raging. Instantly there was a calm.

When Jesus ‘hushes‘ our storms… there is an instant calm.

25 But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”
And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”

And again, we see that no power on Earth can even begin to approach such authority! Of all the human beings who have ever lived, none have even remotely approached His power, authority, and total control over all things. Even the secular history of that time period testifies to His Miracle working Power.

So, “where is our faith” during our storm? In our hearts, are we running to “wake Jesus up” to beg Him to save us from perishing during our storm?

Or are we calm, knowing that Jesus is in our ship?

Knowing that with Jesus in our ship and we will not perish!

Jesus will take us over to the other side!
