Trunk or Treat

When you walk in, you’re greeted by a casually clad older gentleman and a thirty-something smiling woman with a sparkle in her eye and a cup of java in her hand. Her haircut could easily be featured in a “What’s Hot in Hollywood” red-carpet photo gallery, especially when paired with the trendy pair of jeans she’s sporting. The “good mornings” they utter are bright and warm, followed by joyful laughs of welcome. The room lights up. Everywhere you turn, people are waving to you and inviting you to enjoy pastries and juice or coffee; you can hang out together like friends and family always do. The atmosphere buzzes with positive excitement. It’s like opening night of the greatest show in town. Just as this thought passes through your mind, a Santana riff calls you into the party room. It’s not a concert; it’s a church. By the time you finish hearing the contemporary Christian band, listening to the so-relatable-I-know-they-were-talking-to-me life message, and rejoining your children who have been in value-based classrooms disguised by fun, there’s no question that RiverGlen Christian Church would be just the type of organization to hold the likes of its annual Trunk or Treat event.

RiverGlen isn’t traditional in much that it does. Many in her student ministries state it best when they say, “Love God. Serve others. Nuff said.” A church whose mission it is to make new and better followers of Christ realizes that today’s Christians need more than a weekly place to drop in, drop down, and take commun . . . ion; they need a commun . . . ity. With this in mind, they are looking forward to once again hosting a unique twist on Halloween. Imagine what it would be like if every house your children trick-or-treated was decorated. What if there was great music? Here’s the kicker. How awesome would it be if your kids could get in 50 to 100 houses in a very short time period and know that all of them would be “at home” and handing out safe candy?

Trunk or Treat is a great event by a great community that offers all of the above. Every year, 50 to 100 families thematically decorate their trunks – usually accompanied with fun costumes. Picture a Hawaiian luau opposite Alaskan ice fishermen. Walk the plank at the pirate trunk to reach your candy. Don’t get run over by the ghosts running around being chased by PacMan; Speaking of “pack”, visit the Green Bay trunk facing its Chicago Bears rival! They’ve all been there. Candies, costumes, and continuous tunes make the perfect seasonal celebration. If you’d like to hold off on candy, enjoy the hot dogs and beverages inside. Join RiverGlen Christian Church for Trunk or Treat, and you may want to return every week to be part of her family.

This year, Trunk or Treat will be held on Friday, October 28th at RiverGlen Christian Church: S31 W30601 Sunset Dr., Waukesha, WI 53189. Check them out online at www.riverglen.cc.
