Cancer Can Be Beaten

One of the health issues that scare women the most is the thought of contracting breast cancer. This Montreal examiner’s sister went for her annual breast exam to find out that she had pre-cancerous cells. She was one of the lucky ones who will be treated before the cancer has a chance to take over. The sister had an exploratory operation and all went well. She is well enough to go on a vacation to Cuba. When she gets back, she will have 25 radiation treatments to make sure those cancer cells never materialize.

Cancer can be prevented and women must make sure they get their routine mamographies. Breast Cancer Action Montreal is a nonprofit organization run by women who believe that breast cancer does not have to happen. These women state that not enough research is being done in the area of breast cancer. Public awareness is necessary to help prevent the spread of this horrible disease.

Breast Cancer Action Montreal is devoted to bringing the latest findings about breast cancer to women in Montreal and all over the Internet through their website. Breast Cancer Action Montreal is involved in several projects to bring awareness to the public and provide action where necessary.

Their current campaigns include:

The Safe Cosmetics Campaign

The average North American woman is exposed to over 126 different chemical compounds, which enter into the blood stream. Montreal women need to lobby against the use of these products.

Femme Toxic

“FemmeToxic is a campaign focusing on the toxins in the environment, particularly those found in cosmetic and personal care products, which are detrimental to human health and can increase the risk of cancer and other health-related disorders. The goal of FemmeToxic is to advocate for stronger cosmetic regulations.”

Breast Cancer Action Montreal relies on the membership fees of its members to stay in operation. For an initial $25.00 (Canadian) and an additional mere $5.00 per year thereafter, interested individuals can help the cause. The membership includes all access to seminars and workshops and includes the organization’s newsletter. The stronger the membership, the greater the chance the organization will have to obtain grants from the government and private organizations.
