Decorating for Halloween: Fun with Helium Balloons

Here are a couple of very simple but unique Halloween display ideas you can create with helium balloons. You may either rent a helium tank and make your own balloons, or have them prepared for you by a balloon maker.

The first decoration idea is to take assorted orange and black helium string balloons and tie a commonly available spider ring to the bottom of each string. It’s best it you tie the spiders above eye level for safety considerations. Spiders hanging from helium balloons wafting all around the room create an appropriate Halloween tableau. Be sure to provide enough balloons so everybody at your party can get a souvenir helium balloon and spider.

The second helium balloon idea is also very simple; and for this one you will need a large (30 gallon) Halloween design leaf bag (the cheap light weight orange “Jack-o-lantern face” leaf bags work best). These are use to collect leaves for Halloween lawn displays, but you are going to use it for something different…

Fill the leaf bag with 30-50 orange helium string balloons; the number depends on the size of your balloons and the volume of the leaf bag, but a large bag can hold a LOT of balloons! When the leaf bag is filled, seal the top with something light, like scotch tape. You have now created a huge floating “Jack-o-lantern face” which will waft around the ceiling. At some point during your party, rip open the leaf bag and (surprise!) release all the helium balloons for your guests.

Happy Halloween!
