Consumer Review of the HP Pavilion Dv2000: My Favorite Laptop

As a generation Y twenty-something, I feel I have a pretty good grasp of what makes a good laptop. Speed, reliability, durability, and price are all factors that need to be considered when searching for the best one. Luckily, I have found a laptop that I absolutely love in the HP Pavilion dv2000. All of the HP Pavilion dv models are made with the same basic format; they differ in screen size and various features. However, the dv2000 provides everything I need at an incredibly affordable price.

HP Pavilion dv2000 Speed

The dv2000 comes with a 1.83 Ghz processor, 2 Gigabytes of ram, and about 250 Gigabytes of hard drive space. All of these features make it great for storing music, watching videos, or streaming high speed internet. Personally, I enjoy recording music with the newest version of Reason (not included). Most recording programs are known for how much memory they eat. However, I am able to record and surf the internet at the same time (with memory to spare). I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this computer for the most demanding online video games, but for the average person, there is more than enough memory and processing power in the HP Pavilion dv2000 to go around.

HP Pavilion dv2000 Reliability

I have owned this computer for about three years now, and have never needed to take it in for repairs. The dv2000 processor works just as fast as the day I bought it, and the hard drives still run smoothly. Other computers seem to bog down with age; the HP Pavilion just keeps chugging along. The only reliability issue I have encountered concerns the battery. Although the battery did last a couple years, it’s charge capacity wasn’t spectacular and it didn’t give much warning before it died for good.

HP Pavilion dv2000 Durability

The dv2000 has withstood years of college study, including trips to and from the library. These trips involved throwing the HP Pavilion in a backpack, tossing that backpack into the car, and then heaving everything over my shoulders. Outside of a few scratches, it doesn’t look any worse for the wear. It has held up amazingly well considering the punishment it receives.

HP Pavilion dv2000 Price

My dv2000 is at least three years old and would probably be considered obsolete by an electronics store salesman; therefore, it wouldn’t be purchased in a big box store. However, even the current comparable models are very reasonably priced. Most go for $350 or less, and have many of the same features that $1,500 Macbooks have. If one were to find an HP Pavilion dv2000 on Craigslist or eBay, a model in great condition will probably go for $150 or less.
