How Did “Obsessive Compulsive PERSONALITY Disorder” Get Its Name?
Q: There is something that i have never understood about Obsessive Compulsive PERSONALITY Disorder (i put that in all caps because i know a lot of people will think i mean OCD) is why it has that name. If OCPD is not related to OCD, why did they put the “Obsessive Compulsive” part its name? Doesn’t that just make it confusing as hell?I know the difference between the two disorders, i just have no clue why they named it Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. Does anyone know?
A: I think its because OCPD is pervasive in almost all aspects of that persons personality.whereas with OCD the persons personality is normal they just have an overwhelming urge to be compulsive in a few specific ways.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Question?
Q: My cousin says that naming inanimate objects is a sign of obsessive compulsive disorder and I have never heard this before. I was curious about this being in any way related to obsessive compulsive disorder.
A: I think it depends on ‘why’ a person is naming them. If its to relieve anxiety, alleviated negative thoughts or feelings, I guess it could be. More often than not however, I suspect it is a creative outlet that allows a person to connect more with the external world.
