as pain medications go-what is stronger or better then oxicodon 5mg pills ?
Q: I asked my doc. for somthing stronger but he says they are all about the same. like percocet.
A: Narcotic pain meds are extremely addictive. For those with chronic pain, it’s better to explore other means of pain relief.. like TENS units, surgically implanted pain relief devices, or even visualization. I work with too many people that became addicted to their pain meds. Anti-inflammatory meds like Aleve, Motrin, etc. may work better for you if you add Tylenol. They work in different ways but work well together.
Oxicodon from 2 different manufacturers has a different effect…whats the difference?
Q: The first saysOXYCODONE-APAP5-325 MG TABMCKand the second saysOXYCODONE HCL CR10 MG TABLWATthe second one seems stronger and makes me more drowsy and weak…why is that?
A: Theoretically the first one should be effective early. It contains paracetamol (Tylenol) apart from 5 mg of oxycodone. The second one is a slow release formulation, that is supposed to be effective for long time. It contains only the oxycodone. But all the 10 mg seem to be released at once, causing some drowsiness.
How do they come up with the names for medications?
Q: How do they come up with names like Lavitra, Oxicodon, Imatrex, Tylenol, etc? They seem like pretty wild names, so is there like a method to comming up with the name for a medicine, or do they hold a big meeting where people just make crazy names up and stuff?
A: Yes, it is really weird how drug names defy reading sometimes.I think sometimes they are named for the plant or animal from which they are derived. I know certain prefixes and suffixes often describe a certain category of drugs eg drugs ending in “done” (such as the oxycodone you mentioned) are usually narcotics while those ending in “zine” are often anti-anxiety or anti-seizure drugs and drugs ending in “line” are often antibiotics. Some drugs are derivatives of other families of drugs such as those in the penicillin family; I’ll bet there are hundreds of different ones which all come from penicillin proper. That’s why it’s important to let doctors know when they ask if you have any drug allergies.Anyway, this is a little long but hope it helped a little.D.
