Quick and Easy Tips for Successful Holiday Decorations

When it comes to holiday decorating, it can be difficult sticking to one idea. There are so many themes that it can be tempting to decorate each room in a different theme. However, most people are not like Martha Stewart, being able to tie everything together. This ends up making the house look like a huge clash because of all the different decorations. Follow these tips to keep the holiday decorating easy, fun, and enjoyable.

Use One Color Theme

When decorating, use one color theme. This doesn’t mean that only one color has to be used. However, don’t try to use red and green in one place, gold and silver in another, and a blue and silver in yet another. Instead, choose two or three colors that compliment each other and use them throughout the house when decorating.

Use Scents

It’s the holiday season, so let your nose know that it is the holidays. If you are busy, buy some scented candles and light them so you have the smells of the holidays in your house. If you are not busy, use your time to bake cookies and have other holiday scents around such as pine and spices by decorating small areas that go with your color scheme. Before guests arrive is an especially good time to bake.

Create an Inexpensive Family Tradition

Involve everybody that celebrates Christmas in your family tradition. Make sure that kids and perhaps even pets can be included. The tradition can be anything from singing a certain song to making inexpensive crafts to keep or to exchange.

Change the Focal Point of the Room

Rearrange furniture at the holidays so the focal point is something like a fireplace, where the stockings hang, the kitchen, or the Christmas tree. This gives the room a different feel than from the rest of the year.

Use White Lights

Colored lights are fun. However, they can run up the cost if you are constantly changing colors from year to year. Instead, use white lights. Use other decorations to enhance the colors with the white lights.

Decorate Every Room

While people don’t often think of decorating kitchens and bathrooms, they are important rooms to decorate during the holidays. There may not be much to decorate, but even a scented candle that matches the rest of the household decorations in these rooms helps the entire house feel festive.
