Rece Davis’ Gold Pants Comment on Ohio State: Fan Reaction

After the Michigan win over Ohio State, studio host Rece Davis’ gold pants comment on the Buckeyes had many fans talking.

Davis was part of the studio show that presented the Michigan vs. Ohio State highlights following the game, later in the day, and he decided to make a bit of a joke at the Buckeyes’ expense.

The Rece Davis gold pants comment: “I guess they won’t have any gold pants to mess around with after the season,” he said, referring to the items the players are given for beating Michigan each year should it occur.

Of course, the ESPN host was poking fun at Ohio State by indirectly referencing the team’s scandal that involved selling memorabilia and got the program in hot water. Terrelle Pryor for instance sold his 2008 Gold Pants for about $2500 even though they were a gift from the school.

The other two hosts seemed to be caught off guard by the comment, and so have many fans. Some are not happy on message boards after the Rece Davis gold pants comment, thinking that it may have showed some bias against OSU when it is Davis’ job to be impartial.

But Michigan fans of course enjoyed the comments, as they have been on cloud nine since their 40-34 win over Ohio State, their first since 2003.

When it comes to the Rece Davis gold pants comments on ESPN, it’s all in the eye of the beholder.
