Samsung Galaxy Nexus – Overview

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been announced by Samsung and Google and will be running Android 4.0, also known as “Ice cream sandwich.” This will be the first devise to run Android 4.0 and will be available in November. There is a lot of hype going into this phone because of some of its amazing features.

Ice Cream Sandwich is Google’s newest mobile operating system and is much improved over the previous version. It will make multitasking easier with a new and improved user interface. Ice Cream Sandwich also features a new face-unlock technology that allows you to unlock the home screen by the facial recognition technology. IOS has had folders in the home screen available for quite some time now, but it will finally be available with Android in Ice Cream Sandwich. The folders simply allow you to group together certain applications to organize or save room. Android 4.0 also has an improved browser in terms of speed and will allow you to have up to 16 windows opened at once.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be available with 16GB or 32GB of internal memory as well as 1GB of RAM, which should be plenty of storage. The devise also features a 4.65″ 1280×720 HD Active Matrix OLED Display. Having a smart phone with this kind of screen resolution is going to be amazing. The screen is fairly large compared to the iPhone’s 3.5″ display as well as having a higher resolution than the newly released iPhone 4S.

The phone features front and rear cameras. The rear one is a 5mp auto focus camera that also has an LED flash. The camera has zero shutter lag and several camera settings including quick shot. It will be very interesting checking out how well this camera takes action shots considering these features. The front camera is 1.3mp for making video calls as well as whatever you would like to use it for. Video recording is also an upgrade over the previous model, now with full 1080p HD and 30 frames per second. The video recording specs are the exact same as the iPhone 4S’s, which are already amazing.

The Nexus will also feature Bluetooth 3.0 which is lightning quick, so this will be great for transferring data. The size of the Nexus is 135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94 mm, which makes this the thinnest smart phone ever. The Nexus uses a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and also includes an accelerometer, compass, barometer, proximity sensor, light sensor, and a gyro. All of these are included on many smart phones now days except for the barometer. Having a barometer on a smart phone will be very cool and fun to play with.

Overall, I’m very excited about the release of this new phone and hope it will give the iPhone some good competition.
