My boyfriend got another woman pregnant during a time when we were broken up. Should I stay with him now?
Q: My boyfriend and I dated for a year and half before I broke up with him (we were arguing way too much for me and both of us had some trust isues with the other person). About 4 months ago he and I began rekindling our relationship, but during this time we found out that someone he was seeing while we were broken up is pregnant (she is now 5 months pregnant). I know that I can’t get mad at him for seeing someone else while we were broken up (I was seeing someone else too), but at the same time I’m so upset that he is going to be connected to this girl for this rest of his life. And whats even worse is that I know this girl’s main reason for wanting to keep the baby is because she thought that it would bring her and my boyfriend closer together. He has explicitly told her that they will never have any type of relationship with each other, other than because of the child. He has also told her that he is back in a relationship with me (which she did not take kindly to at all), so I know that he doesn’t want to be with her. But now I’m concerned that she will try to use this baby to keep my boyfriend close to her every chance she can. I’m also concerned because even though he is not thinking of getting in a relationship with him, I know that a very close bond will be established between the two of them because of this child. And when I think about that I get really upset, because I don’t want my boyfriend having that close of a bond with another female. I know that this is the man that I want to spend the rest of my life with. I know that he feels the exact same way about me. I’ve told him (and myself) that I’m going to be by his side throughout this whole ordeal, but there are some days where I get so upset that it takes every ounce of strength within me not to break down and cry. I’m trying to be strong and not let this situation consume my thoughts, but it does anyway. What should I do?
A: You know w/o a doubt this girl is going to be “connected” w/him as long as a child is involved. You’ve got to be really honest w/yourself in whether you can deal w/this situation or not. You KNOW she’s always going to have an excuse to contact him at any & all times w/whatever arises w/the child. Are you prepared to settle for this as long as you’re involved w/him? This is a BIG question only you can answer. In other words, he’s got a lot of baggage already attached w/him. Not saying that is bad, but it is a fact. Myself, I don’t think it would be in my best interest to be involved in a situation of this nature. I know I would always wonder what’s going on every time he went to pick up the child, or if/when she contacted him was it really a necessity or just another ploy to try to “get him”. I actually was in this situation yrs. ago, going w/someone who had two children. I know what I went thru every time he went to pick them up. She also didn’t allow him to bring the children to “our home”, so he had to do his visitations at his mother’s home. It DID cause many heartaches & fights between the two of us. That’s why I know first hand the seriousness of the situation you’re facing. It’s only natural this would be utmost in your mind & rightfully so. You’re going to have to make up your mind if you honestly want someone w/this situation already in their life, or it if would just be better to move on & find someone who doesn’t already have “attachments” before you even start to get seriously involved. You’ve got to think of you & what the best thing for you would be. When you do, look at it in an honest way & exactly what you can or cannot handle. Best to you & I trust you make the best choice for yourself & your future…:)
