Moral Failure – Lack of Moral and Ethical Discipline in Workplace Relationships Always Come Back Haunting

How many leaders have ruined their lives, and destroyed the lives of others through immorality? The number is tending towards countless in the history of American politics. A look at the recent sexual harassment allegations against G.O.P presidential candidate Herman Cain reveals the consequences of immoral, or flattery behavior that are far reaching, to derail his ambitions.

Many politicians with similar backgrounds to Herman Cain must be thanking God that they are not running for presidency, for the reality of a work place is heavily contaminated with unacceptable sexual behavior that mostly goes unreported or unnoticed.

Workplace environment in the 21st century is characterized by ‘too friendly atmosphere’ that tends to ease workers to use sexual gestures to advance their colleagues, advances that, at that moment are funny, humorous and makes the advancer appear appealing to others, until when the situation turns sour, or a partner fails to act in an expected manner.

The allegations Herman Cain faces are not any different. In as much as it’s a case of ‘he said – she said,’ it is obvious there was a friendly atmosphere that was conducive to him and his attackers that evolved over time, an atmosphere that involved flattery and unnecessary favors.

With sensitivity of sexual harassment cases haunting public leaders, it has become paramount to be watchful over social circles one confides in. Character has become a crucial issue today because of the myriad of leaders in the political, business and religious world that have fallen morally.

The case revolving around Penn State football coach Joe Patano and his former assistance couch Jerry Sandusky, indicates the danger of being too friendly in a business environment, irrespective of the length of relationship.

Public figures must be careful about the use of their words, messages they send through physical gestures, and how far, or how frequent they can extend favors to those working under them, for, however one handles workplace relationships can affect their future ambitions should they choose to pursue higher offices.
