Is there anyway to heal up stress fractures on your spine in 3 mo…?

You need rest, rest, rest. Your body will heal it’s own bones in about 6-8 weeks, but if you keep injuring it, it’s never going to heal. You need to stay away from sports and working out and have it rechecked in a couple of months.

overweight and miserable….?
Q: HI, i’m 5’2″ and weigh 15st7lbs. I just cannot lose weight.. I’m on a diet that’s been given to me by my dietitian but i’m still putting on weight. Any ideas as to how i can lose weight? I exercise but only lightly as i have a broken leg and i’m not allowed into my gym until it’s healed. I also have a healing fracture in my spine so i need light exercises. Any ideas as to what i can do? Can you also recommend any good diets? I have an under active thyroid too which makes losing weight difficult. It feels like i’ll be like this forever!! It always feels like it will never find love.. Who could be attracted to me?!! No guys like fat girls, right?Help please???No nasty comments please!i’m 23 years old
A: Hi, Hope the spine and leg are properly on the mend. You should talk to the hospital about physiotherapy for both – exercise is not really an option without supervision for a while, or you may do more damage. Ask if there is a local hydrotherapy pool you can use, which would enable you to exercise without weight bearing. Once they are mending, many areas in the UK have a programme for gym subscriptions via your GP or physiotherapist, which are supervised by a trainer with qualifications in gym training for those recovering from injury. In my area you get twenty sessions.Ask your Doctor to check you are on the correct level of thyroxine as this should make it more easy to lose weight – some doctors do under-prescribe for this. Ask to be referred to an Endocrinologist if you have not seen one yet. While you are being tested for that, perhaps you could have a general screen done of your blood to make sure your hormone levels are okay – as you will be at risk of type 2 diabetes with your BMI.Finally, the diet. Buy yourself a really nice notebook – preferrably A5 ish size and WRITE DOWN every single thing you put in your mouth, whether water, juice, tea, wine or actual food. That includes that late night nibble and the sneaky sweet – no one needs to see it but you, so it is not worth cheating yourself. At the back, draw in columns headed Bust/Underbust/waist/hips then each week, at the same time, measure and make a record. Forget weight – let the dietitian worry about that. Weight fluctuates, measurements really tell how you are doing.Sometimes it is easier to follow an actual plan, so you know each meal is balanced, and can shop accordingly. Some people are not allergic, but have an intolerance, to foods which will make a difference to size/weight loss. Look for a book which will give you actual plans as well as recipes. One of my favourites is “The False Fat Diet” by Dr Haas – I am not connected in any way to this book, but know of three people who have lost major amounts of weight using this scheme and kept the weight off for several years – one lost 10″ from her waist in the first 6 weeks. He gives good information on different foods and how they affect conditions (ie diabetes) and gives various diet plans to follow. The one that I think is most successful and more likely to be followed, is the one which allows you 2,300 kcal a day – three meals and three snacks. That way you are unlikely to binge, as you will always feel full and if you are not cheating now, then food intolerance might be the reason the weight won’t shift. If you are still unsuccessful, then speak to your doctor/dietitian about whether you should consider a system like Lipotrim (usually doctor supervised in the UK), Lighter Life or the Cambridge Diet. All these suit some people and you do have to be over 3 stone overweight to do them.Last but not least, a friend saw a picture of herself on TV having raised a great deal of money for charity – she was totally horrified and has subsequently lost 8 and a half stones with Slimming World.`good luckPS If you would like to contact me with where you are, I could probably copy a few pages from the book for you to have a look at!
how can i get rid of my lower back pain? i just cant take it anymore…?
Q: hello im sixteen and i found out that i broke a piece of bone off my spine. turns out it didn’t heal right and instead of connecting back to my spine it fused into the scar tissue around it. after a test my doctor said that it was old and wasn’t going to heal rather it will stay where it is. he said basically for example it could like 3 months old or even two years old. and i have dealt with the lower back pain for about six weeks. do you think that surgery would be an option, because he recommend that i get an injection into my spine to make the pain go away.what is this injection?if my fracture is old why am i getting this intense pain in my back and side all of a sudden? im doing physical therapy, do you think that will really help me?what can be done about this. the only meds im on help me sleep but during the day i just cant take this freaking pain anymore.can anyone help me out here??thanks in advance.
A: Ok first off I just want to say, I’m not a doctor. So everything I say is either speculation or based on experience as a paicent (not sure if I spelt that right). Not sure what the injection is, it could be something to numb the tissue surrounding that spine piece. It could be that it’s hurting now because of the stress this fracture has put on your back over the years.Physical therapy is very helpful. My mom broke her arm (like smashed it–all shards) and I tore my hamstring, with in a month of each other and did physical therapy. Mother-Daughter physical therapy, haha. Anyway it’s really helpful, and it helps keep the part of your body you hurt strong while you recover. Say you break your arm and have to have a cast for a couple months, without physical therapy your arm will be really weak when it comes out of the cast.Talk to your doctor. Don’t take the ones you use for night during the daytime because they could make you really drowsy, but talk to your doc. to see if there’s any day medications you can take.I do think surgery is an option, but get lots of info on the operation; the who(will do it), what(will it help), when(will it happen), where(will it happen), why(do I need it) and how(will it be done). You don’t need to know all the specific doctor-y stuff but make sure it’ll be safe and that you’ll be comfortable with it.Hope I helped.
Is this writing any good?
Q: You have to read this first: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=An8zIV8dZe8TU7Ub1tjFW0zsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080819173014AAZnUQpShe pondered for a moment in the water, studying her wavering reflection, and decided that she would head home slowly, looking for more prey on the way.She hauled her self out of the water and started making her way home. Walking caused a sharp recurring pain in her ribs every time she took a step. She stopped for a moment to examine herself. She wasn’t in the best shape she had ever been in.Tufts of hair matted with the calf’s blood stuck up all over Zakeria’s back. She twisted around so she could see her stomach, where the calf had pummeled her with its hooves. There were a few visible cuts, but they were barely bleeding. Most of the pain she felt was internal. Carefully, she poked herself in the ribs. She winced as sharp pain shot up her spine. She had some internal bruising and probably a fractured rib or two. Zakeria sighed and started toward home again. She knew she wouldn’t be able to hunt again for a little while. Her group’s doctor, Hanniah, wouldn’t let anyone lift a paw with even just a hairline fracture in any one of their bones. It was rather annoying. Until your bone was completely healed, Hanniah wouldn’t let you leave the camp. It made you feel so useless, just laying around the camp all day, eating what others catch and doing nothing but watch them come and go. Zakeria had only broken one other bone in her life. She was out for a training hunt with Azeri. They were stalking young a gazelle when they had been charged by its mother. Being only a little kitten at the time, Zakeria had been thrown halfway across the whole Serengeti, and smacked right into a tree. She had broken just her front leg, surprisingly, and got out of training for about half a year. Of course, she didn’t see it as confinement, being stuck in the camp all day. She saw it as a way to get out of training, and she’d milked it for all it was worth. Now, she was quite sure it would drive her crazy. At least it was just a fracture, and not a full break.Zakeria remembered when she had been taught by Hanniah to diagnose your own illness. Everyone had to be taught by the doc before they went anywhere. She hadn’t liked that training very much. It was just sitting around, listening all day. Every once in a while, Hanniah would let you try to diagnose someone who was actually sick. But, even that part wasn’t much fun. She had been glad when it was over. She had to admit though, it was helpful.Zakeria also thought about her group. She remembered what Azeri had said about why all of them stayed together. She could recall her mentor’s exact words. ‘Long ago, some cheetahs went through some rough times. The prey was disappearing, for some reason, and a couple had kittens to take care of as well as themselves. Soon, a few of them started being picked off by hyenas. That was when they knew that they had to do something. One of them had the idea of staying together for protection. He said that the hyenas wouldn’t dare try to take on that many of them, no matter how weak they were. It wasn’t as concrete of bonds as we have now, but it was a start. Now, the strongest cheetahs hunt for everyone and we unite under a leader. We travel together, and, if necessary, we fight together. We have strong bonds and trust. The purpose is to exist peacefully, without the constant threat of scavengers when you’re weak. So that’s the way it’s always been. Some cheetahs have broken away from the group and done pretty well for themselves, but most have come back because they miss the company. We’ve also appointed a doctor to care for us when we’re sick, which greatly decreases the death rates. Frankly, I can’t even imagine living alone.’It hadn’t made sense to Zakeria back then. She hadn’t understood why all of them together would be better. Now she understood. If she were a hyena, she wouldn’t attack several cheetahs together.A loud trumpeting noise interrupted Zakeria’s thoughts. She looked a round, a bit disoriented, and saw some elephants off in the distance, spraying each other with water from the river. She wished she could do that to her group without them getting mad. Actually, she just wished that all of them didn’t hate the water so much. It was really annoying when she went to the river with one of her friends and wanted to go swimming, but didn’t have a partner.Zakeria knew that her group was probably getting worried about her by now, but she was going to take her time getting home. When they saw her and asked where she had been and what she had been doing, she would make something up. There was no way that her group was going to find out that she got beat up by a calf. She started thinking up a story that was believable and didn’t rob her of her dignity. Nothing too extreme, but something that would explain her injuries.Zakeria could tell by some landmarks – the big bend in the river and thThanks, everyone for critiquing my work. I might post a little more, but not much. I do plan on getting it published, so I won’t post that much. Sorry. Please continue to comment. Note: None of this stuff is edited, so have at it.
