Whitney Houston Dies at 48

I saw the news on Facebook for the first time as I sat at my computer. At first, I thought it was a joke or that someone had heard wrong. Unfortunately, after doing a through search, it was confirmed by CBS news that the singer and actress that I looked up to in my childhood had passed away at the age of 48.

Information about her death at first was kept to a minimum. All we know is that she passed away at 3:55 pm at the Beverly Hills, Hilton Hotel. She apparently passed away in the bathtub, but since she was taken from the bath tub, an autopsy had to be done to determine the cause of death. Reports say that she was not drinking at the time of her death, but there were various bottles of pills in the hospital room.

Sunday, February 12 is when the Grammy Awards are scheduled, so I am sure it will be with heavy hearts that they hand out the awards. Many of the artists were close to Whitney Houston and many more looked up to her. Many new singers actually got their inspiration from Whitney and many actors got their inspiration from her work in movies like ” The Body Guard” and “Waiting to Exhale,” both are among my favorite movies.

Whitney Houston came from a family of singers, mostly gospel singers, but had chosen to stick with her roots in a non-traditional way. She brought the beauty of gospel and purity to pop music so that all people could enjoy the soulful sound of her voice.

Years ago we were all troubled by the announcement that we knew was coming, that she had become addicted to drugs. We all saw the change in her and her voice. The once beautiful voice that lulled us all and brought tears to our eyes from the beauty, had started to become dull and raspy. The charm was no longer there. I personally had hoped that she was just loosing her interest and that it would come back with time, this sadly not the case.

The end of her life she was not seen in the public eye very much. She was very reclusive and the majority of her appearances were awkward for her and her fans. Especially after the world began to focus in on the abuse that she suffered from her then husband, Bobby Brown, who she divorced in 2007.

After thorough investigation, it was found that Whitney Houston died from a mixture of health problems that were made worse by her use of cocaine. The mix, caused her to drown in the bathtub.
The L.A coroner stated toxicology reports revealed a mix of “marijuana, Alprazolam (Xanax), Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) and Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) were identified but did not contribute to the death.”

According to USA Today , her death was an accident.
