How long will I be sick if i get my tonsils out?
Hi. I am thinking about getting my tonsils about and i am deciding when to do the surgery. How long will I need to stay at the hospital? Will I get sick? How long will it take me to recover completly from the surgery?

My friend had hers taken out and she was down for about 2 weeks, but everyone heals differently. During recovery she lost a lot of weight because she couldn’t eat and her breath was horrible the entire time.. i was 21 when i got mine taken out. i was in the hospital overnight for observation and was off work for 10 days. i had to take pain pills for a 2 to 3 days but felt better after 7 days. i ate alot of popsicles because it felt so good to my throat and i couldn’t swallow any food for the first 4 days as it hurt alot. good luck sweetie Your throat will hurt for about 4 days. You will have to take it easy for about a week and a half. I just got mine out a week ago.
My daughter had hers out. They kept her after surgery for about 6 hours for observation. Then, they sent her home with an ice pack (for her neck), medicine for nausea (so she wouldn’t throw up all that blood and rip her stitches out in the process), and strict instructions to have NO FOOD for about 12-24 hours, except for cold popsicles, non-acidic juices, cold water, etc. She felt pretty cruddy from the anesthesia and sore throat for about 2-3 days, but she was back to her normal self within a week. well,when my cuz got hers out she was sick for at least 2or3 weeks
