did adam and methuselah and enoch and the other patriarchs really live as long as the Bible says they did?
Q:what was the difference in our lifespan before the dawn of urban living and other dirty social activities and the way we live our lives now? have we extended our lives or shortened them?

Yes Source(s):Gods word I am catholic and i think that at the time the bible was written their way of counting years was much different than how we count them now. There is also the theory of the layer of ice the surrounded our atmosphere keeping the temperatures constant and the harmful rays of the sun out and allowing longer lifespans. The theory is that the ice was hit by a meteor that melted the ice and caused the great flood of Noah and his ark. It is after that event that the life spans of the biblical people started to shorten. But either way it is a really minor issue in what ever else the bible has to teach us. Genesis 6:1-3 explains this:When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.”There were exceptions, of course, even after that, but that is when He decided the average life expectancy was too long.
