It’s best to apply calamine lotion to dry skin.Calamine dries the oil that causes the rash. Moisturizers keep this from working effectively.
Forest rangers in the past years used a product named :So help me Hanna.” I had to use it one time and eliminated the problem in 2 days (had been fighting it for more than 2 wks). The last time I tried to trace it, it could not be found.. you may want to check around and see if it is still available.I had already seen a doc who gave me a shot.. didn’t do a thing for it!
calamine isn’t going to work well either. You need to go get some IVY Rest and apply that without moisturizer. If the itch is real bad take some benadryl. If it still won’t go away see a doc for some prednisone. Source(s):My own personal battel with poison ivy over the years.
To get rid of the poison ivy (and your gonna think this is wierd) apply regular unscented BAN deoderant/antiperspirant to the affected area. It will dry it up an a matter of 2 or 3 days. it’s possible. the point of calamine is to help dry it out.
Probably because of the fragrances and other non-soothing things in regular moisturizers. If you want to put a moisturizer use something hypoallergenic like cetaphil cream or eucerin cream, but probably just the calamine is best. Source(s):med school
