Can smoking cause a miscarriage?
Q: I’ve had 2 recurrent miscarriages…I know there could be many reasons for this and we’re going to a fertility specialist, but I was just wondering, if my spouse has been smoking all his life (he’s 42) and a bit overweight can that change the morphology or slow down the sperm? I know I’m a bit overweight as well (I’m 28), but basically pretty healthy, don’t smoke, drink, etc….maybe it’s a combination of factors… Also, both times we got pregnant, it didn’t take us long..our problem is not getting pregnant, but just staying pregnant..Are there any cases out there where your spouse stopped smoking and then you ended up having a healthy pregnancy? Thanks beforehand for all the answers.
A: Yes smoking can change the morph & slow down the sperm but not sure if it could be the cause of the miscarriages. My man smoked & quit now for almost 6 months & his sperm count/morph has increased since with also taking alot of vitamin c daily tablets. I had a miscarriage also & come to find out my cycles were irregular & it was a problem with my Lethal phase time. I’m having the problem getting pregnant since my miscarriage 2 yrs ago. I went to the dr myself & he gave me a 3 month supply of 50mg clomid, but that didn’t also help & i have another appt on the 20th. Good luck to the both of us & lots of baby dust. We can’t give up & just have to try harder. It’s not always an easy road to go down for some of us when ttc.
What could be the cause of this?
Q: Could this be a miscarriage? For one I’m young & I had unprotected sex w/my boyfriend. It was not intentional we were drinking and it just happened but…I was on birth control and the birth control I was taking you could have unprotected sex 7 days after taking it and it should work towards protecting you from pregnancy well I had unprotected sex 6 days after I started taking it (which was an accident) but later that month I started my period it was a weird period though it was really light which I usually have really heavy ones (but it could have been from birth control) & I don’t think it lasted as long as It should have. Well later on my stomach got really bloated and started to hurt and I got really uncomfortable with my body like it became uncomfortable for me to lie on my stomach. I started to feel nausea in the mornings my boobs were diff and all of that stuff. But I started my period this month right on time it was the amount of days it was supposed to and all the signs and symptoms of pregnancy went away…is there any explanation for this?I dont think it was from the birthcontrol. I was FORSURE that I was pregnant. I was just scared to death to take a pregnancy test because I knew it would ruin my life so I just wanted to go with the flow and see if I started my period the next month .. (becasue i have freaked myself out before over this kind of stuff) Anyways I was pretty sure I was pregnant i had the back pain and i know this sounds horrible but Also I used to smoke herb a lot & when I thought i was pregnant when i would smoke It would make me feel really sick to my stomach I mean I had like this weird feeling in my stomach sometime i know this sounds crazy but the best way to describe it is it felt like bubbles popping inside of me…idk it was a really weird feeling. i know babies don’t kick until they are in you for a few months but that’s the best way to describe the feeling
A: Could have been a very early miscarriage. Could have just been a wonky period. No way of telling at this point. I suggest you try to be a little more careful about your birth control if you don’t want to get pregnant.
Question about my potentially expecting Yorkie/Schnauzer?
Q: On June 4, my now 10 month old pup was accidently let out of the house and bred with our aunts small dog. The signs had stopped so I let her out a few minutes to use the bathroom, and was watching her from my window to make sure she was okay like I had before. I looked up and saw it happening and immediately seperated the two, so their was no time for them to “tie” but I guess long enough for her to conceive. It was during the end of her second week in heat, and we are thinking because of her age, it was her first cycle although there was period a few months prior she was “spotting”-the vet said it could’ve been “puppy heat” and not the real deal-Anyways, she’s since developed all the symptoms of pregnancy. However, I’ve been really careful about what she eats because she’s very prone to getting bacterial infections from certain dog foods (she got it twice from eating Caesars). We gave her the vet recommending Science Diet, which she gobbled up for a little while. But since her potential pregnancy, she hasn’t touched the stuff. I went a week keeping both the dry and moist Science Diet out and she would nibble here and there, but I was afraid she wasn’t eating near enough for both her and the pups. Also she would go into periods where she would drink very little water some days, then others she’d be lapping up the entire bowl in one sitting. I was afraid she was just tired of Science Diet so I began to alternate her food to Purina “One” and Ol Roy and she eats it up. But within this past week, I guess bw 28-36 days of being bred, she’s been throwing up a couple of times, won’t let us pick her up(even if we’re careful not to touch her stomach, and being far too calm and sluggish for her usual energetic behavior. So my questions are these:1. Could she have gotten the bacterial infection from my changing her food from Science diet or Purina and Ol Roy and this could be causing the vomiting, sluggishness, and irritablility? Or are these common signs of a normal pregnancy?2. Will they be able to treat an infection if she is pregnant? 3. We’re afraid she was bred during her first heat, so if this isn’t an infection causing such strange symptoms, could it be a result of a bad pregnancy (I’ve heard if they get pregnant during first heat, she’s less likely to carry them full term and could easily miscarriage causing infections and other health problems for her.I realize it was my poor ownership that allowed this to happen. I was informed that their heating cycle only lasted at most a week and a half, and since she stopped showing signs by the end of the second, we didn’t question it. And I know spaying directly after was an option but, I didn’t have the heart to after I found out that she may be carrying pups. I called the vet first thing this morning, but they couldn’t fit her in until late this afternoon and I guess I’m just worried and impatient to find out what’s wrong. If you are an owner, a breeder, or work in a vet clinic and have honest, sincere answers, I would very much appreciate the help. Thank you very muchThank you for your help and opinions. Like I said before, I know it was my fault this happened, and I’m not blaming anyone else but myself and I know that the vet, who I am seeing today at 2:15 btw, is the one I should wholeheartedly rely on. But I posted the question on here for others who may have had pets in this situation or have seen it. It was a stupid mistake to not get eduated on the subject beforehand, but the fact is, as wrong as it was of me, what’s done is done and I have to consentrate on my dog now. So those who feel compelled to include a lecture in the answer, that’s ok, but keep in mind that we as loving dog owners are on here to help others concerning their dog, not searching for someone to chew out for something that can’t be fixed. It’s not about me, it’s about her and her health, so that’s the kind of answers that’s needed. And I’m aware of the euthanization problem, trust me, these puppies will be taken care of.
A: Unfortunately that was probably the most likely time for her to have gotten pregnant. If you can go ahead and get her fixed before the pregnancy would cause complications to do so.
