Proper bench press technique?
Q: Hi everyone! At my school weight room we only have a mechanical? Bench press. Like one which is a bar attached to a pulley that lifts up weights. So basically a bar you push up with adjustable weight and no free movement. Anyone tell me what it’s called? Before anyone goes into saying “It’s far better to use an actual bar” I’m just trying to make do with what I got. So basically On this thing I can push 100lbs once (13 years old) so I wanted to know what the best weight and how many reps/sets of what weight I should do for best results. I would also like to know proper technique so if someone could link me to a site or tell me that’d be great. I would also like to know best exercises to supplement my bench press. Thanks in advance,Jamie
A: i’m not sure. it’s just a machine bench press station i guess. anyways, pay attention to what it says for proper hand placement in the link. adjust the vertical height so that your forearms are completly vertical in the end of the eccentric phase, or when the bar touches your chest.http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/betteru9.htm PLEASE READ:keep in mind that there is a positive correlation between stunting your growth and weightlifting at that age. i’d ask your parents and the P.E. teacher if that’s ok. i have seen Chinese kids who start weightlifting at eight years old, but they’d probably never be taller than 5 foot 6 inches. the upside is that for a little guy like that, they have what’s called a high power to weight ratio, in which a 136 pound guy can heft an almost 400 pound weight over his head.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUut9_qdHcQthe kid weighs less than 110 lbs yet can clean and jerk a 200 lb + ? weight
