If you have had a cough that the doctor said was allergy related what meds were you given that worked?

I haven’t ever been given medicine specifically for an allergy related cough, but all of my allergy symptoms have been relieved by Zyrtec. If the cough is because of phlegm he’s trying to cough up, then it’s important to encourage him to cough. What my mom taught me when I was little was how to do a progressive cough, where you cough a little, and then deeper, and deeper. It helps to get the phlegm loose so you can get it up.Good luck! Ususally antihistamines do the trick.. what has the doctor given your child so far? usually doctors give something like tavist or benadryl first, then if that doesnt work they step it up to zyrtec syrup or chewables or claritin syrup. they might even add singulair to help (also been approved for asthma) Ask your doctor about these and if none of those work, then its something that needs to be looked into further. 🙂

First, get to the bottom of what is causing the allergy and eliminate it as much as possible.Then contact your children’s hospital and advise you have a young child with long-standing cough. Meantime, a pharmacist, preferably an older one, should have very good knowledge of what will control the cough.

I do not have an answer for this. I mainly jut want to put in my input. I have never smoked. Had this cough about 3 1/2 months. WEnt to Palmonoligist. He gave me Predizone. While on it, it worked. 3rd day off. And I am getting worse again. Each day since the pills have been gone, it is getting worse. Rattle in throat, and labored breathing. Any ideas? Thank you
