When craving clay, why can’t pregnant women eat it?
Q: I’m reading what to expect when your expecting and in it I read that pregnant women crave things like clay, dirt or starch.I’m currently one of them but the thing I’m craving is clay.where I come from there is a certain kind of clay that people consider ok to eat (when you need it). It’s supposed to be used for diarrhea and stomach issues. The thing is I’m 25 weeks pregnant and I won’t get to see my doctor until thursday, but I’m really craving clay.why are pregnant woman not supposed to eat it?what would happen if it were eaten?what do you think.
A: Um, it would collect in your colon and compact every morsel of food in there, until you couldn’t poo!Medically, clay does have some bacteria killing properties, but I’d suggest talking to your doctor, before considering eating a hunk of the stuff.Clay is not intended to be eaten-by anyone!
This is so embarrassing: Why does my anus itch? there’s a hard thing there?
Q: well I had a baby this year. Before getting pregnant, I had trouble with my bowels for several years, bouts of urgent diarrhea, having to run to the bathroom after leaving a restraurant, it would strike suddenly and several times a day, all the time on a regular basis. I mentioned it to my doctor, but it was ignored. I was beginning to think maybe I had IBS, due to my nerves. But anyway, I got pregnant, and the diarrhea pretty much stopped. But instead I was constipated, which usually happens to pregnant women. It was a relief to not have diarrhea all the time. After having my baby, it all cleared up. My BM’s are pretty regular. 8 months later, they are very regular. I have a soft BM every day like clockwork. And I mean like clockwork. It comes at the same time everyday, which is a good thing right? This seems much healthier than constipation or diarrhea. (even though my diet sucks, my BMs are good). Now for the last month or so, I have noticed that my anus getts really itchy at night time after I have my BM. It’s usually always after my BM that I get itchy. This is sooo embarrassing. It’s not itchy any other time. Just after my BM. More details to come …So as I was saying… it’s itchy after I poop… But it’s weird because it’s not the skin around that area… it’s sort of inside where I can’t get to it… I try to scratch the itch with toilet paper when I wipe… but it seems to be where I can’t reach… like sort of inside the “pucker” part… This is so gross and embarrassing… I had a BM just earlier, and again the itching… So i am wondering what is going on there… and I tried to get my finger inside the “pucker” to itch there and feel for something. And there is something sort of hard. Very strange. It’s right at the opening, but it doesn’t come out. I try to push it out, but it doesn’t move. It is small, and firm, and rubbery sort of like how a pencil eraser would feel, but smaller. What the hell is that? Is it a hemmorrhoid? Years ago my doctor said I had a hemorrhoid from getting constipated, and it would bleed. But I thought hemmorrhoids were soft and squishy on the outside of the anus, and they bleed. This doesn’t bleed at all like my hemorrhoid used to. I feel weird about sticking my finger in my ass, but I wanna know what this is. I don’t have any std’s either if that’s what you are thinking. I just had a baby, and I asked to be checked for everything, and EVERYTHING was negative. God if it’s not a hemmorrhoid, then I hope it’s not a Pin Worm. I read that those things come out at night. I would be so embarrassed if I had that. If it was a worm wouldn’t it wiggle away? and wouldn’t it be soft and squishy or wormy feeling? I just don’t know…
A: Metamucil 3 times a day for constipation. See a doctor because it sounds like hemorrhoids. If your doctor ignores you get another. Not all doctors are equal someone is at the top of the class so there has to be one at the bottom of the class when doctors graduate from college. Get a doctor that will listen to you and value you as a person.
Why do women get morning sickness?
Q: I know that most of the time when we are sick, the symptoms we have are for a reason. For example, a stuffy nose causes the nasal passages to heat up and kill germs, a fever kills germs, diarrhea and vomiting flush the body, etc… So, what good does morning sickness do for a woman? I was sick 24/7 until I was about 21 weeks pregnant with my son! I couldn’t keep ANYTHING down and always felt terrible, and I actually lost tons of weight until I started to feel better. I’m afraid to get pregnant again, even though I want more children, for fear of the morning sickness. Anyway, I was hoping that understanding why I got so sick will help the second time around! Thanks for any info you can provide! : )
A: Many women get it for many reasons, but it is always difficult to know what your reason is!It is believed to be a reaction from your body increasing production of 26 different hormones + another 4 hormones that are only made during pregnancy. If you are healthy when you conceive you shouldn’t worry too much about being sick because your body most of the time has adequate stores of nutrients, that supply the embryo & fetus even if you cannot eat for well for a few months! It seems that eating several smaller meals helps as well as increasing you intake of vitamin B6 from food high in B6 like, whole grains, wheat germ, legumes, and corn, also help to alleviate symptoms. Also Ginger in food or a ginger ale soda can help too.It seems that if you want more children to just start eating really well before trying to conceive, try some of the above remedies to help cope with and nausea or “morning sickness”. Those months will pass and soon you’ll have a new baby to show for all that throwing-up!
