My boyfriend doesn’t believe that periods make women cranky. What do I say?
Q: How can I explain to him that most women really do get cranky, and its not just an excuse that women use?
A: Well not all women get cranky. I cry a lot around that time and get emotional but not really bitchy. I know some women who get nothing but anyways here you go:”Exactly what causes premenstrual syndrome is unknown, but several factors may contribute to the condition. Cyclic changes in hormones seem to be an important cause, because signs and symptoms of premenstrual syndrome change with hormonal fluctuations and also disappear with pregnancy and menopause.Chemical changes in the brain also may be involved. Fluctuations of serotonin, a brain chemical (neurotransmitter) that is thought to play a crucial role in mood states could trigger the symptoms. Insufficient amounts of serotonin may contribute to premenstrual depression, as well as to fatigue, food cravings and sleep problems. Some women with severe premenstrual syndrome have undiagnosed depression, though depression alone does not cause all of the symptoms. Stress also may aggravate some of the symptoms, but alone it isn’t a cause. Some PMS symptoms have been linked to low levels of vitamins and minerals. Other possible contributors to PMS include eating a lot of salty foods, which may cause fluid retention, and drinking alcohol and caffeinated beverages, which may cause mood and energy level disturbances.he most common signs and symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome include:Emotional and behavioral symptomsTension or anxietyDepressed moodCrying spellsMood swings and irritability or angerAppetite changes and food cravingsTrouble falling asleep (insomnia)Social withdrawalPoor concentrationPhysical signs and symptomsJoint or muscle painHeadacheFatigueWeight gain from fluid retentionAbdominal bloatingBreast tendernessAcne flare-upsConstipation or diarrheaAlthough the list of potential signs and symptoms is long, most women with premenstrual syndrome experience only a few of these problems. For some women, the physical pain and emotional stress are severe enough to affect their daily routines and activities. For most of these women, signs and symptoms disappear as the menstrual period begins. But a small proportion of women with premenstrual syndrome have disabling symptoms every month. This form of PMS has its own psychiatric designation — premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome with symptoms including severe depression, feelings of hopelessness, anger, anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulty concentrating, irritability and tension. A number of women with severe PMS may have an underlying psychiatric disorder.”MRS J you’re wrong men do have hormonal changes through the month which is why sometimes they are more aggressive. Study: Genes Make Women Cranky??
Q: I read this articel, title listed above, and it was a vast myriad of generalisations about women. Men are by far more viloent and ill-tempered than women. Now, some supposed researchers claims that a study of some women in europe proves something about this subject. Most of the women I know do not fit this profile AT ALL? What do you ladies out there-worldwide think of this article on Yahoo’s front page? Why does everything have to have its origin in the body. How about manners/ Self-dicspline? Maturity levels. Narcsissism? Bi-polars undiagnosed? There are dozens of reseaons women could be ill-tempered. And if this is true, why is it, men commit the violent crimes?SOURCE ADDED: SORRY I DIDN’T GIVE IT IN Q’S.news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20070309/sc_livescience/studygenesmakewomencranky – 30k – Mar 9, 2007 -SOURCE ADDED: SORRY I DIDN’T GIVE IT IN Q’S.news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20070309/sc_livescience/studygenesmakewomencranky – 30k – Mar 9, 2007 –
A: As a female, i feel insulted when people justify my anger towards them as just the ‘monthlies’. There are many possible reasons why women are ‘less’ cranky than males. We are who we are, by our social environment. they say we are who we are from our parents, and people we’ve lived with in our life. Some people lived with aggressive caregivers, and were born to be aggressive, and perhaps more cranky..Males have more testostorone, XY not XX), missing part of the X may have had some genuine emotional genes)The idea that males are more violent and ill tempered gives men an opportunity to act and behave like that. Psychological theory, if u think they’re violent, and ill tempered, and they know that u think that, then they’ll just behave exactly like that. Its just about thought!!
