Q: It’s hard enough even talking about this again, and this anxiety has recently turned my life into somewhat of a living hell. I had been over it for a while but just recently it’s come back. it’s always been somewhere in my head though… over a year ago, on my birthday, my friends and i went to great america. and just as we were about to leave, my friend decides he wants to go on this thing called the extreme sky flyer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kW2LNOPRV6s&feature=relatedthat one day i saw this. I just saw how high it was, and just said no, no way. so then I watch my friend and my dad go on it, and just watching it made me tremble. then of course after my friend won’t stfu about how “epic” it was. And ever since that day I’ve been experiencing severe anxiety and stress over the fact that I didn’t go on it. It’s not even that though. I don’t regret not going on it. It’s that I feel enormously pressured to go back and go on it. but that’s the thing. I don’t know why I feel so pressured! I just do! like I know at somepoint i’ll have to, and the very thought of that has been causing my anxiety for over a year now. like thinking about sky diving is just like whatever, or bungee jumping whatever… but this thing.. just thinking about how high it was, just makes me want to crawl into a corner and die. You don’t know how easy it is for you to just say that I should just get it over with, because you don’t know what has been going through my mind ever since. I wish I could just be at peace with myself, but I just don’t know how. I am perfectly fine with the fact this is something that i absolutely do not want to do, and I am perfectly fine with such a fear of heights. but I just can’t get rid of this pressure. To the point wear I just want to bash my head against a wall. I’ve tried meditating, I’ve tried contemplating how rediculous it is, I’ve tried talking to people about it, I’ve repeated millions of times how all of this is just in my head and doesn’t exist, I’ve tried praying… and as much as I’d like to think I’m getting better, the pressure is still there. I feel I can’t be free, and live life to the fullest until I’ve conquered this fear, and as a result I’ve lately been very depressed and unenergetic, which pisses me off, cause I know there is nothing really stopping me from enjoying life as best I can. I have just about come to the conclusion, that although I don’t know why, and don’t want to, I must conquer this fear. Even though I will maybe do this at somepoint, and have said i will at somepoint, the pressure is still there. It’s not like i’m going to be going back any time soon, but still the pressure is still there and it won’t go away. I’m so terrified of going on this thing, and I know I will be knocked to the ground just upon looking at it. I don’t know why I’m putting myself through this, or what force has plagued me with this illness, but I just want a way out. I don’t care if it involves conquering my fear or not, I just want to be free! any advice? and thanks for listening. and if you reply saying that this is rediculous or something like that, I have instantly lost all respect for you.
