Running gets your bottom portion of your body moving to a greater extent. Just jumping up and down can get your heartrate up but it can definitely get real boring. If anything, I’ll choose running or the jogging.

Q: I want something quick and easy that I can do for 20 minutes everyday, something like jump roping or running. I’d rather not run around my neighborhood and I can’t seem to find a jump rope (I checked the sporting goods store and Kmart), help finding one would be great too. Other ideas besides running and jump rope? I could run but would rather not outside in the snow. This is just a brainstorm so say whatever you like.

Is jump rope a better cardio exercise than running?
Q: I have recently started working out at home and have been eating healthy, and just doing exercises at home. I’ve been doing tons of exercises that don’t use weights because at the moment i can’t afford to get a gym membership, or buy weights, but i will join a gym in about a month. I have been jumping rope quite a bit, but it doesn’t seem to get me as tired as running. I know jumping rope is supposed to burn a lot of calories, but is that only when your in really good shape? I tend to go for about 30-50 jumps, and then mess up and take a quick break before i start again. I do it for anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes. (i sometimes just get plain lazy) So if i jog the same amount of time, which one burns more calories. Would you recommend jumping rope as a good cardio exercise, or just to go with jogging.? or keep doing a combo of the two?The basic question here is whether 10 minutes of jump rope burns more or less calories as 10 minutes of running. Whats your opinion?
A: This is a hard one to answer because it totally has so many variables that factor into it. I have done both wearing a heart rate monitor. If I am running on a flat surface at a steady pace I will burn about 110 calories in 10 minutes. I burn about 80 calories in 10 minutes of jumping rope but I am not that good at it and have to stop a lot. Truthfully, either one is great and is going to burn calories so do whichever one you enjoy the most. the important thing is to stick with something. I think a combo is best, that way you wont get bored with it. Also, you might google circuit training and look for bodyweight resistance exercises that you could use to make a circuit workout for yourself. You can do a block of strength training and a block of cardio, and repeat, etc…. That is a surefire way to TORCH calories and get you in great shape. 🙂 Good luck!
